The Senate Finance Committee has issued a “Frequently Asked Questions” document explaining the HIT Funding in the stimulus package, addressing what it calls “wild misinformation” about health information technology provisions in the economic stimulus bill. The document addresses some of the following concerns:
- The government will not have access to individuals’ electronic medical records, according to the committee. Nor will the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology have any influence on the treatment decisions that physicians and patients make.
- The legislation also prohibits the government from making coverage decisions based on the comparative effectiveness research on best treatments that is authorized and funded in the stimulus bill.
