Nationwide Research Network Expands the Value of EMRs, Group Practice Journal, Nov/Dec 2008
When combined with a research network, EMRs can do more than create cost savings and workflow efficiencies, according to a recent article in the Group Practice Journal. It can also enable physicians to measure their practice’s performance through the Practice Partner Research Network (PPRNet). “Initially when we adopted [an EMR], it was for the efficiencies. As that’s become second nature, we’ve turned our attention to the quality opportunities that an electronic medical record system offers,” said Michael Maxwell, M.D., Family Medicine of Port Angeles in Washington.
PPRNet is a joint venture between the Department of Family Medicine and the Center for Health Care Research at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and Practice Partner is the electronic medical record used to capture the patient information for the Network.
